Yodel colleagues donate £450 in cash to Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Oldham
The teams at Yodel’s Shaw parcel sortation and transport centre, Oldham, have raised £450 in cash to donate to their local Maggie’s Cancer Centre.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Maggie’s Cancer Centre had seen a drop in donations and the Yodel team decided to raise funds for their local charity. Yodel shift manager, Val Kilburn, rallied her colleagues at Shaw during the month of October to collect money to support the staff and families at the centre.
Maggie’s is a charity providing free cancer support and information in centres across the UK and online. Since the opening of the first Maggie's in Edinburgh in 1996, it has now grown into a network of centres built beside NHS hospitals across the UK, helping people with professional support for anything from treatment side effects to money worries.
Val Kilburn, Shift Manager at Yodel, said: “We are pleased to support the local cancer centre, and to get everyone at Oldham involved in such an important cause. It was a team morale booster to be able to give back to those in need in this incredibly tough time.
“We hope that our efforts will make a difference at Maggie’s Cancer Centre, and we look forward to working with the staff again in the near future.”
Laura Tomlinson, Centre Fundraising Manager at Maggie’s Oldham, said: “A huge thanks to the team at Yodel for thinking of Maggie’s and coming together to do some fundraising for us. And what a fantastic amount they’ve raised!
“Their support comes at a time when our support at Maggie’s is needed more than ever. Coronavirus has caused additional anxiety for people with cancer. Worries around delayed treatment, cancelled appointments and finances all add to the stress of going through cancer. We’re here to help.
“We’re so thankful to the team at Yodel for finding a way to support us during these difficult times and for helping us to be here for people with cancer at a time when they need us most.”
Drivers collect thousands of parcels from Yodel’s retail clients around the country and bring them back to Shaw for sorting. They are then sent out to Yodel’s nationwide network of depots for onward delivery to customers across the UK.
