Yodel delivers record number of flowers to Mums and reveals that daughters are 50% more likely to buy a gift than sons
UK independent parcel carrier Yodel delivered a record number of flowers over Mother’s Day this year and through analysis of its deliveries has established that daughters are more likely to buy a gift for their mother than sons.
With people told to keep their distance from parents on Mothering Sunday, Yodel made a record 228,000 deliveries of gifts ranging from flowers and cards to chocolates, toiletries and clothing, up 4% on 2019.
Through analysing the 14,000 responses gained through Yodel’s Have Your Say customer feedback programme, the delivery company has established that daughters are 50% more likely than sons to buy a gift for their mums online. Nearly a quarter (22%) of women shopping online in the week leading up to Mother’s Day bought a gift for their mother, compared with just one in seven men (14%).
The most popular gift for mums overall this year was flowers, sent by two thirds (67%) of Mother’s Day shoppers. Men and women preferred to give different presents this Mother’s Day, with most sons choosing to give clothing and accessories (22%) and daughters opting for flowers (68%).
As a result of Yodel’s increased investment in specialist sort facilities, flower deliveries on Mother’s Day have grown consistently year on year. Yodel currently delivers flowers for Serenata Flowers, Arena Flowers and Euroflorist.
More people (34%) spent between £20 and £30 on gifts for their mums than any other price range, with a lucky 15% of mums having more than £50 spent on them. The most generous location this year was the South East.
Yodel currently has around 500 self-employed courier and service delivery partner roles available across the network. The roles, available nationwide, are open to all ages and can be applied for all on the Yodel Careers website:
