From telescopes to beehives: Yodel delivers record number of Father’s Day gifts as boom in online shopping continues
UK independent parcel carrier Yodel delivered a record number of parcels in the lead up to Father’s Day this year, with volumes up 30% on 2019.
With lockdown restrictions still preventing a lot of people from seeing family, Yodel made a record 3.3mdeliveries in the week leading up to Father’s Day, with gifts ranging from experiences and books through to chocolate and beer. Other gifts this year included a telescope, a sleeping bag for fishing and a beehive.
Through analysing more than 17,000 responses gained through Yodel’s ‘Have Your Say’ customer feedback programme, the data shows that that daughters are 34% more likely than sons to buy a gift for their dads online. 7% of women shopping online in the week leading up to Father’s Day bought a gift for their dad, compared with 5% of men.
The most popular gift for dads overall this year was food and drink, sent by 36% of Father’s Day shoppers. More people spent more than £50 on gifts for their dads than any other price range, with a lucky 38% of dads receiving gifts of this value. According to the research, the most generous location this year was Northern Ireland, with over half of gifts costing upwards of £50.
Sam Holden, Chief Commercial Officer at Yodel , commented: “Father’s Day is a sentimental time of the year and we’re proud to play a key role in delivering gifts up and down the country, especially at a time when so many people can’t see their families. We work with several different retailers, and our ‘Have Your Say’ customer feedback platform gives us valuable insights into the spending habits of online shoppers across the retail sector.
“The whole Yodel family steps up to plan for key dates like Father’s Day to ensure that all of our specialist items – such as beer and whisky – are handled correctly and delivered on time.”
Yodel’s award-winning Have Your Say survey is run in partnership with Maru/Matchbox.
