We’re extremely excited to be continuing our role as the official logistics carrier for the OVO Energy Tour Series. A fantastic team from Yodel has toured the length and breadth of Britain during the month of May, supporting the series all the way from Stevenage to Aberdeen.
The Tour Series is the UK’s biggest and most prestigious televised cycle race series for men and women, with a unique team based format. First held in 2009, it attracts top cyclists - including Olympic and World Champions - to compete across 10 circuit races held in town and city centres across Britain each May.
This year’s Series started on 10 May in Redditch and will finish with a grand finale on 31 May in Salisbury.
We are very proud to play our part in the series and are supporting the event by using 10 of our vans to transport gantry, start and finish signs, winners’ podiums and everything needed for a great hospitality area to eight towns and cities across the UK (Redditch, Motherwell, Aberdeen, Durham Aberystwyth, Stevenage, Wembley Park & Salisbury).
We’ve even been inspired by the race to explore our potential to broaden our service provision and look to increase the number of areas where we use cyclists to enable faster delivery by cutting through congestion - helping to boost the business’ green credentials and improving delivery to recipients based in pedestrianised zones.
We currently work with multiple delivery companies delivering between 80 to 100,000 parcels per year. Through our partnerships with Pedal & Post in Oxford, BoxBike in Stevenage and Pedicabs in Hereford, we are able to continue to offer the same great Yodel service in congested or pedestrianised areas. This drive to be green includes looking at how we can make next year’s tour kinder to the environment by using electric vans to provide transport support in future races.
Our work doesn’t stop there, we will also be supporting the OVO Energy Women’s Tour which takes place in June. First held in 2014, the OVO Energy Women’s Tour is the UK’s biggest and most prestigious women’s Stage race. Once again, 24 Yodel vans will cover the breadth of the country helping to deliver the tour across UK towns and cities including Framlingham, Southwold, Rushden, Daventry, Atherstone, Royal Leamington Spa, Evesham, Worcester, Dolgellau, and Colwyn Bay.
A founder member of the UCI Women’s World Tour, the race attracts the world’s top cyclists - including Olympic and World Champions - to compete on British roads over five days in June. The 2018 race will take place between Wednesday 13 and Sunday 17 June.
“We’re delighted to be working with Yodel. They have been our long-standing logistics partner and without their support and expertise we simply wouldn’t be able to run our premier sporting events. The role they play in moving hundreds of tonnes of equipment around the country is vital.” – Mick Bennett, Race Director at SweetSpot Group, organisers of the Tour of Britain, Women's Tour and Tour Series
